I’ve worked through most of my meal breaks and worked overtime without pay (even if only 15 minutes to wrap up) either because of pressure to meet a document quota, due to tough deadlines, or just to perform well. The agency won’t authorize overtime so no one bills it. Am I alone or have others had the same experience?

The average time I have ever had to wait for a project here was roughly 3-4 days. It is notr uncommon for me to pick up another project right away. If I wait over a week, I flip out, but luckily that has been rare.

I used to get car rides home, when I did contract work in New York. In fact, firms would provide car service to anyplace a contract attorney needed to go in the tri-state area. So someone who lived 60-miles out, in Connecticut? ... DONE You would get a sweet Lincoln town car to take you home--that was 2.5 yrs. ago.

Yes, you guys in DC totally have it much better than us here in LA if what you said is all valid. Although I don't drive to work (we have metros too here in LA), I've never heard of taxi rides home or meal subsidies. I pay more than a hundred dollars for parking every month (out of my own pocket). I wish we had more hours but it's extremely rare here. What are the average hours for projects in DC? Our projects average about 50 hours (which in temp world translates into less OT, less gross income, less than 2K). The longest I've been without a project has been 2 months. Is that the norm for you DC'ers too? Do you guys make that much more than us?? We contract attorneys here in LA are poooooor! How come they can't bring more projects over to the west??
