I am with the others on this - please find a healthy outlet for your frustrations. Hurting ones who love you is a lose-lose proposition. Be careful of self-medicating - this profession has its share of heavy drinkers, and it is too easy to hit the booze when things get rough. I hope that you can reach out to your fiance and her family. Good luck!

SadJD,

Oh no...sorry to hear all that's happened. I agree with myattorneyblog, you should never, ever hit a woman under any circumstance. I know there are a lot of things going on in your life right now, and sometimes stress takes a toll in our behavior towards people we care about. I worry about how things may be later on in your marriage when life gets even tougher...:(

Having said that, you should ask your girlfriend for forgiveness. Then ask her family for forgiveness too. Next time, remember to control your alcohol intake...and never discuss politics with others as many people argue over the subject (many people get extremely passionate over politics!)

As for the job market, don't lose hope! If you're looking for a full time job, that isn't document review, keep on looking....I'm sure something good will come by! But in the meantime, document review is good. It'll help pay for the bills, give you flexibility with your time, help you meet new folks who can help you network...:)

Try to handle your stress better next time :) Life gets overwhelming for all of us...It's a matter of trying to keep things under control. Take a vacation, go watch a good movie, eat something yummy, do whatever it takes to help you get through the tough times...things will get better, I promise.

SadJD,

Slapping her probably was not your brightest moment. I hope you apologized profusely and begged for forgiveness. If you are truly remorseful and change she might soften up...but you have to really mean it. Note to self next time - don't hit women! At least with men they will slug you back with equal force.

As for the job market, I feel for you. It's not easy dealing with personal issues to begin with, and such problems are even more exacerbated when you don't have a job. There are projects out there but because of the current state of the market, many agencies are keeping their selection limited to those who they've worked with before. I'd recommend checking with the smaller agencies like Robert Half and Legal Source. Not necessarily my top choices, but they seem to have work right now.

I've been lurking this forum for a month and a half or so. Anyway, I went to my fiancee's parents' house for Thanksgiving...we got there at around noon. Started drinking immediately. Wine and beer. Then her dad breaks out whiskey or scotch or something. I basically made a huge ass out of myself and got in a shouting match with her dad and an uncle (I think) about politics and called them stupid and leftist morons or something, fuck I don't remember. I threw up in the basement bathroom, and I'm not sure whether anyone was aware of that fact. Fiancee and I got in a monster argument in her parents' front lawn, and I am 70% sure I actually slapped or hit her :( (with her family watching out the window of course).
Basically, she took me home at 4:30 (just after dinner) to "sleep it off". I passed out and just got up. My fucking head is spinning and I've already thrown up again twice in about 20 minutes. My fiancee won't speak to me, shit she won't even be in the same room with me. I am seriously fucked. I just needed to vent. I have no idea what I'm going to do.
I've been stressed out lately, maybe this is the reason this happened, I dunno. Trouble finding a job, been doing doc review, not too many prospects on the horizon, etc etc etc. Fuck. Any advice?

"Money is replaceable and frequently fleeting, good family and friendships are not" - true, very true. We shouldn't take our family and friends for granted...
